Join us on the #IGrowYourFood Action Day on September 10!

To celebrate six years of #IGrowYourFood, the first global platform amplifying the voices of organic farmers, we partnered with the Intercontinental Network of Organic Farmers Organisations (INOFO) to host a live stream discussion on 10 September 2024 at 12 CEST titled “Challenges and Strengths in Family Farming – Organic as an Opportunity”.

In a rapidly changing agricultural landscape, family farmers often face hurdles such as access to markets, financial instability, and the pressures of industrial farming. However, these small-scale farmers also possess distinctive strengths—resilience, deep-rooted knowledge of their land, and the ability to innovate within their communities.

Shamika Mone, rice farmer and President of INOFO, will moderate the discussion, alongside two organic farmers Maria Liza Evangelista and Karina Davia, a young entrepreneur who buys and processes indigenous vegetables Mercy Manyange, and Guilherme Brady, Head of Family Farming, Parliamentary Networks and Communication for Development Unit of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

The panel will bring together a diverse group of organic farmers, agricultural experts, and policy advocates to explore how organic farming can serve as a sustainable solution that addresses these challenges while amplifying the inherent strengths of family farms. Discussions will revolve around practical strategies for overcoming obstacles, the economic and environmental benefits of organic practices, and how policy frameworks can support the growth of organic family farms.
