The Best Practice Guideline for Agriculture and Value Chains is a contribution by the organic movement to the global discussion on sustainable agriculture.
It aims to lead, guide and inspire people from every part of the earth to work cooperatively to reverse the destructive path modern agriculture has taken on our planet. It aspires to empower individuals and organizations to exercise their own ingenuity and assume leadership, and to improve their own performance and practices, quality of life, and the well-being of their communities.
This first public version of the Guideline was developed over two years of intensive stakeholder engagement, discussion and drafting by IFOAM - Organics International and its partners in the Sustainable Organic Agriculture Action Network (SOAAN).
Going forward, IFOAM - Organics International intends the Best Practice Guideline to serve as a core contribution to the global discussion on sustainability, both within and outside the organic sector. It is intended to help more fully manifest the Principles of Organic Agriculture worldwide and show the organic movement as a leader across a full spectrum of sustainability issues pertinent to agriculture and its value chains. We encourage use, debate, and refinement of this first version. The Best Practice Guideline is intended to be a living document; once approved it will be subject to improvements and amendment through motions to future General Assemblies.
