Launched in 2024 with funding from the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), the Agroecology Promotion Project (APP) is advancing the transformation of food systems across Africa and Southeast Asia. By promoting sustainable, resilient, and dynamic agricultural practices, APP is scaling and skilling up agroecology to meet global challenges.
The initiative includes a global component and two regional components for Africa and Southeast Asia. IFOAM - Organics International leads the project alongside regional partners such as Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT) and the Agroecology Learning Alliance in Southeast Asia (ALiSEA). Globally, APP is implemented in partnership with Biovision Foundation and the Agroecology Coalition.
APP operates through collaboration with governments, private institutions, and growing markets, while empowering civil society to foster accountability, transparency, and improved outcomes in food security, livelihoods, and environmental sustainability.
To accelerate its mission, APP focuses on four intervention areas:
- Capacitation of Stakeholders
- Youth and Women Empowerment
- Policy Dialogue
- Financial Mechanisms
The Academy of IFOAM - Organics International plays a pivotal role in delivering Agroecology and Organic Leadership Courses and developing participatory agroecology curricula. Its Policy Department drives dialogues to advance policies supporting agroecological systems.
Through partnerships with governments, NGOs, the private sector, and diverse stakeholders, APP is building more resilient agricultural systems. This effort aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing global commitments to sustainability.
By investing in innovative agricultural solutions, the SDC and its partners, including IFOAM - Organics International, continue to champion a future that benefits both people and the planet.
