IFOAM – Organics International with the Sustainability Institute implemented three 5-days Training of Teams of Trainers, the ToToT in Southern Africa
Three ToToT’s were hosted in 2021, covering five different countries, namely South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi. The countries are part of the Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in Southern Africa falling under the greater umbrella of the Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture in Africa (KCOA). The ToToT aims to address ‘‘Capacity Development Processes for Ecological Organic Agriculture in Africa at Continental, National Level’’. This call takes place at national Level and is funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in cooperation with local partner organisations.
The ToToT is designed to support national teams of Master Trainers, who will in turn train Rural Service Providers (RSPs) and change agents in strengthening the ecological organic agriculture in Africa; in their respective regions and countries. The ToToT aims to give lead trainers the necessary knowledge and practical skills to not only train RSPs, but also inspire and motivate them to share and disseminate their knowledge as well as skills. The ToToT will focus on developing the capacity of the master trainers to:
- Train and inspire learners (mainly the RSPs)
- Strengthen cross-cutting methodological competencies
- Develop the knowledge, skills and attitude (self-leadership) to develop a personal roadmap for change
- Manage the operations of their trainings (ToT)
